This past weekend my smartphone pooped out on me.
I was out of town during this travesty.
The screen just went dark and I couldn’t access anything.
All of my internet access (while on a trip)…GONE.
All of my Blog notes that I’d written while in the airport…GONE.
All of my navigation ability (out of town, remember?)…GONE.
All of my bookmarks…GONE.
And worse yet, all of my photos (including the ones I’d just taken of my cousin getting married)…GONE.
It was like I was suddenly struck blind in the middle of a room without a way to find a safe wall to lean against.
I suddenly found myself both freed and terrified! (Terrified mostly because my husband and I were having flight check-in issues and might not be able to fly back on the same day, let alone the same flight!)
And then I took a deep breath (really, a bunch of them) and thought to myself, duh, just do what you did before you got a smartphone – look up directions before you leave, pull out your camera, and wait until you are home to look up your zany research (when did the DIA open its doors again?).
Until my phone went dark, I never realized how much I rely on it to carry me through my day. The Verizon people were great (Thank you Jose, DeWanda, and Joseph!). They figured out the problem (the wires attaching the screen to the rest of the device probably snapped or jarred loose) and helped me start the replacement process. They even gave me a loaner phone to see me through the rest of my trip so I didn’t have to worry about contacting my husband if we got separated on our return.
Today, my replacement phone arrived. I am so glad to have you back in my life, Samsung Galaxy S4.
How about you? Have you ever lost or broken your smartphone? How did you cope?
